Reject Bayesianism, but How?

最近、Chalmersのブログがよく更新されてる。

最近の発表の動画や音声や、最近reviseしたという論文がたくさん。
それらを見たり聞いたり読んだりする、気だるい夏の午後。
どれもおもしろい。

今頃、香港のをYouTubeで見たりして流行遅れだったりする。
それで、extended mindがホットなのかと思ってたら、
昨日のブログでは今度はextended willについて言及されていた。
思考実験の様式として、拡張するというのがひとつの手らしい。

ストーリー仕立てのわかりやすい例を持ち出すのだけれど、
その実、深いところを衝いていそうな話が得意みたいだ。
でも表層だけでおもしろがっていてもだめかもしれない。

アップされた５つの論文のうちのひとつの中で、
referentialismが正しければ、Bayesianは間違っている、
という主張があって、突如として色めきだったりする。
確率とからめてcredenceとbeliefというのが出てきて、
そのちがいがよくわからん。すごく気になるのに。

頭を使いながら論文を読むことができてないのかも。
あともう少しというところでの踏ん張りが足りない。

双子の地球の話が出て来たので、似たような話を
読んだことあると思って懐かしがっていたら、
Putnumの有名な思考実験だったと知った。そうか。

オスカーの場合。

The Oscar case. Oscar lives on Earth.
His counterpart Twin Oscar inhabits Twin Earth, which is
just like Earth except that the watery stuff there is XYZ.
Oscar and Twin Oscar have led phenomenally identical lives,
and in particular Oscar has no prior evidence as to whether
the watery stuff on his own world is H2O or XYZ.
Upon entering the Total Perspective Vortex,
Oscar learns all about the objective structure of the world,
including the existence of the twin planets, but he still
does not know which planet he is on.
He wonders ‘Is water H2O? Or is it XYZ?’.
He rationally has credence 0.5 associated with ‘Water is H2O’,
whereas he has credence 1 associated with ‘Water is water’.

簡単のためとは言え、Total Perspective Vortexというのが
こともなげに出てくるところが思考実験の醍醐味だよね。
